Why you should take Cold Showers

I have been taking cold showers in the morning right after my workout and what a difference in my day it has made. Let me just take a moment and rewind back to when this cold cleanse came about. It was a few weeks ago, when I was having issues with temperature regulation in my body. I started feeling cold all the time to the point where if I was in a room with a bunch of people, I was the only one wearing a hat and scarf, while the majority of the people were in short sleeve t-shirts. I brought this up to a friend of mine, who takes cold showers everyday and who I have seen jump into a freezing lake with no problem, and he told me he would help me break through this overwhelming coldness that has taken over my body. So we all took a trip to a lake in upstate New York, stripped down to our bathing suits and were prepared to jump in. He walked in the lake as if it was a hot spring! But for me, it was a different story. My husband was there to support me and as I inched into the lake with him, doing deep breathing exercises in the process to overcome the painful cold feeling I was experiencing, I finally was in the lake! The water was hitting right below my diaphragm and all I could think of was the cold. I paused took a deep breath and imagined myself pushing through the pain. It took a minute as I closed my eyes still breathing deeply as if I was in meditation. The big step was to emerge my whole body into the water and so I bent down as the lake consumed me. I kept up with my breath work and forced myself to keep my body underwater for at least 5 minutes. That is all it took! When I walked out of the lake, the cold air around me did not feel cold at all. I actually felt super hot, my body was tingling from head to toe and I felt an extreme release of energy . I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing and my energy shifted completely. The rest of the day, I wasn’t cold anymore. When we went to dinner at night and ate outside, I would normally be freezing, but I was perfectly fine.

Ever since that day, I have been taking cold showers in the morning right after my workout. I noticed a major change in my energy levels. I have gone from crashing at 7pm to not feeling tired until 11pm. Im more focused, motivated and aligned. I feel that taking cold showers has helped balance that intense fire energy in me and has helped my physical body.  It has helped my inflammation caused from working out, it reduced dandruff, prevented excessive hair from falling out, and helped hydrate my skin. There are many health benefits for taking cold showers. Due to the cold jolting your system, electrical impulses are sent to the brain to release endorphins and even leukocytes. With everything that is going on in the world, what we all need to focus on is our physical health and our mental health. Taking cold showers can be a preventative solution for the common cold as well as help with changes in your mood.

I highly recommend everyone to try this for at least a week and see if they see a change in their physical and mental health!
